Team Tecala Steps Up to Breast Cancer!

Despite the lockdowns in parts of Australia during August, Tecala employees, family and friends stepped up to the challenge of completing 10,000 steps each day throughout the month to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s (NBCF) vital breast cancer research.

All up more than 6,288,819 steps were taken by the Tecala team, representing approximately 4,800 kilometres or the distance from Sydney to Samoa!

More than $11,000 was raised landing Tecala in the top 5 fundraising companies across Australia for the cause. Tecala supported their participating team and their client, NBCF, by generously meeting staff donations with a dollar-for-dollar contribution. “We can’t thank our participating team members enough for their efforts in the NBCF’s Step Up to Breast Cancer challenge.”

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. 20,825 Australians will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone and one in seven Australian women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.

“With such shocking statistics, we wanted to step up to the challenge and help fund the future of research to play our part in changing these numbers, and ultimately preventing deaths,” says Pieter DeGunst, Managing Director of Tecala.

“We were blown away by our team’s response, and in the process, were able to connect remotely and have some fun during another challenging lockdown. Setting aside some time to get outside and raise funds and awareness for such a worthy cause makes me incredibly proud of the culture and values that the Tecala team represent.”

Team Tecala found all sorts of ingenious ways to complete their steps!

From the beach, to trails in the national parks, or even a lap of the supermarket for the week’s groceries, the Tecala team made every effort to take the challenge in their stride.

Cassiano Pessoa, Tecala’s star marathon runner, made the most of floodlit local fields to gain steps playing football with his kids.

Tecala’s cherished dogs went on more walks than they could bargain for.

All in all, it’s been an incredible and most positive challenge that has mutually supported our team’s wellbeing and the NBCF’s crucial research into breast cancer.

Taking time out for and working on charitable causes is a key company ethos for Tecala and the company is proud of the tens of thousands of dollars which employees and management donate each year to make the world a better place.
