Frequently Asked Questions

What is managed public cloud?

  1. Since first rising to prominence in the late 1990s, cloud computing has become a key component of many company’s IT infrastructures – thanks to the benefits it offers in terms of cost, performance, global scale and manageability are well understood and documented.
  2. A managed public cloud service, is where a third party provider (like Tecala) works with a business to monitor, maintain and continually optimise its cloud usage to ensure it’s always getting the best service at the best price.
  3. The role of the managed public cloud provider is similar to dashboard on a car – put very simply, it shows your consumption, budget remaining, options for switching to higher performance modes at specific times.

What’s the main benefit of ‘managed’ public cloud over ‘normal’ cloud. are the different cloud computing models?

  1. Essentially, it’s all about efficacy of your consumption. The ‘normal’ un-managed public cloud delivers a pure on-demand immediacy that allows you to rapidly access what you need, when you need it. But what about managing the process of migration effectively, maintain connections to the cloud, cyber security, back-up, and cost-optimisation not to mention recruiting and maintaining all the resources you’d need to have in house to manage all the above.
  2. Tecala’s Managed Public Cloud is available on-demand at any time. It delivers rapid scalabily along with specialised management and governance to avoid security risks and any unforeseen costs in your monthly bill. Essentially, it gives you all the on-demand immediacy and scalability, but it also ensures the efficacy of the service.

How do I choose between AWS, Azure or Google Cloud?

  1. With Tecala’s Managed Public Cloud, you don’t actually have to. We select the right platform for your applications or workloads and provision what you need, when you need it. And because their pricing is always changing, we’ll monitor these changes and switch between services to ensure you always get the best bang for your buck.
  2. This is what’s called ‘cost optimisation’ – ensuring your cloud budget delivers the optimal level of service.

Is the public cloud secure?

  1. The public cloud is not ‘inherently’ secure which is why if you choose to adopt a cloud services model you must choose a partner that can deliver cyber security as part of their managed cloud service.
  2. Even with the alarming regularity of cyber-attacks, 62% of small and mid-size businesses still don’t have an adequate or active cybersecurity strategy in place. And many have no strategy at all.
  3. With security delivered as an integral part of your managed public cloud, you benefit from a combined approach including site and cloud security, ensuring your business stays safe from malicious attack.

What workloads can I move to the cloud?

  1. According to a 2020 report delivered by Gartner, the 7 Workloads That Should Be Moved to Cloud Right Now include enterprise applications and services that enable mobile and remote working and collaboration; video conferencing (whether that’s part of your Microsoft 365 service or an independent service, like Zoom); virtual desktops and remote workstation management; ‘scale-out applications’ (i.e. those that benefit from adding additional computing resources to satisfy increases in demand); cloud-based disaster recovery; and business continuity solutions.
